2008 Success Story Award Call for Submissions


Benefits of Participation

Demonstrating leadership, implementing organizational change, and increasing customer satisfaction is a difficult process. Through its Success Story Awards program, Press Ganey recognizes clients for their dedication and unique programs that improve the quality of care.

All Press Ganey clients, from every sector of health care, are eligible to apply. Our selection panel receives and reviews each application, and selects six facilities as Success Story Award winners. Winners will be invited to present at the Press Ganey National Client Conference in Texas, November 17-19, 2008.

We encourage you to answer the Call for Submissions by writing a narrative describing what your facility has done to surpass the expectations of your internal and external clients, and the resulting tangible outcomes.The many benefits of winning are:

  • Success Story Award for public display in your facility
  • Up to $7,250 toward a new or renewed one year Press Ganey service contract
    Note: This award may not be applied to InfoTurn®, coding, or comment reports/processing.

Approximately 20 facilities advance to the final selection round. Finalists not chosen as winners receive:
  • One free registration to the 2008 National Client Conference

Schedule of Due Dates

December 2007
Call For Submissions.
February 15
Initial entries due (In fairness to all entrants, the deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on February 15—no exceptions).
March 31
Finalists notified by telephone and follow-up email. Organizations not advancing to the final round will be notified via email.
April 25
Expanded submissions due. (In fairness to all entrants, the deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on April 25—no exceptions).
May 30
Success Story winners notified by telephone. (Non-winning finalists will be contacted via email.)
November 17-19
Press Ganey National Client Conference. Each Success Story Award winner is invited to present to present a full educational session to conference attendees.

Selection Criteria

Your improvement programs and initiatives may pertain to units, departments, freestanding facilities, or entire organizations. Raw scores are NOT a factor in determining award winners. As applicable, the Selection Panel will consider the following when reviewing your submission. Please include as many as possible:

  • Innovative, creative, and unique aspects of programs or initiatives
  • Improvements in customer, employee and staff satisfaction, morale, and retention
  • Financial, budgetary, and market share gains
  • Use of satisfaction measurement data
  • Leadership involvement
  • Program development and implementation
  • Management of obstacles and resistance to change
  • Ability to modify programs or initiatives when needed
  • Goals set and attained
  • Tangible outcomes
  • Synergy of clinical performance improvement initiatives and customer satisfaction
  • Degree or significance of improvement
  • Improvements or performance sustained over time

If your initial entry is one of the 20 finalists selected, you will be notified by phone and asked to prepare an expanded submission. The selection panel will review the expanded submissions to determine the six Press Ganey Success Story Award winners.

Application Guidelines
This year we are introducing online submissions for initial entries. On our Industry Awards page under Success Story, click on Submit Online, fill out the contact and facility information, read the release form, and upload your initial entry—you will receive a confirmation via email that your entry has been received.

Initial Entries

  • Due 11:59 p.m. Eastern time February 15, 2008—in fairness to all entrants, this deadline is not negotiable.
  • The entry should not exceed 600 words in Microsoft Word®format, double-spaced, Times New Roman 11 pt. font. Provide an overview of the unique performance improvement programs your organization implemented and the tangible outcomes realized—see previous page, selection criteria.
  • The selection panel will consider the quality of writing to include spelling, grammar, and punctuation as well as length of submission in the decision-making process. Entries in extreme excess of 600 words may have points removed in the scoring process.To submit your initial entry, go to http://www.pressganey.com/cs/success_story_award and click on Submit Online.
  • When referencing scores from your reports, cite the specific report date and period.
  • Do not submit PowerPoint presentations, charts, graphs, videos, garments, binders, fliers, or other supplementary material.  

Expanded Submissions

  • Due no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on April 25, 2008—in fairness to all entrants, this deadline is not negotiable.
  • The expanded submission should not exceed 2,400 words in Microsoft Word®format, double-spaced, Times New Roman 11 pt. font. Detail the areas discussed in your initial entry, provide specifics regarding your unique performance improvement programs, and focus on the tangible results of your organization’s efforts. Read examples of previous winners’ narratives on our website.
  • Items to include:

    • submission title
    • short intro to explain the need to implement improvement initiatives
    • actionable steps taken
    • the process
    • building buy-in
    • celebrating successes
    • continuing successes
    • results , including PG scores and financial returns

The selection committee will consider the quality of writing to include spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the decision-making process. All submissions in extreme excess of the 2,400 word maximum will receive negative points in the scoring process.

  • Do not send supporting materials such as presentations, posters, etc.
  • A maximum of four charts and/or graphs may be included at the end of your Expanded Submission. These additional pages do not count toward the 2,400 word limit, and will be used for evaluation purposes only.
  • When referencing scores from your reports, cite the specific report date and period.
  • Submit expanded submissions via email to: ckennedy@pressganey.com.
