CHICAGO, IL — The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) announced today that Children’s Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska, received the 2023 ANCC Magnet Prize®. The award, sponsored by Press Ganey, was presented at the 2023 co-located ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in Chicago.
The ANCC Magnet Prize is presented to a Magnet® recognized organization whose care delivery team initiative best represents exemplary achievements in patient care services, including initiatives in healthcare delivery and research leading to innovations that result in positive outcomes. Children’s Nebraska, a Press Ganey client, will use the $125,000 award to further develop its innovative program—Project Austin: Bridging the Gap Between Hospital and Home for Children with Special Health Care Needs—designed to bridge the knowledge and training gap between the hospital and the patients’ home.
Designed and led by clinical nurses, Project Austin aims to personalize the care plan for children with medically complex conditions to the specific diagnosis and needs of the child. They are co-created by the family, providers and Project Austin staff. This specialized care plan is shared with the patient and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Emergency Department (ED) teams within the child’s community, so they are prepared and trained on how to appropriately respond and provide treatment, reducing patient harm. This shared knowledge builds community awareness and ensures continuity of care between hospital visits.
“This recognition validates the innovative, nurse-driven work being done at Children’s Nebraska,” says Pam Johnson-Carlson, DNP, RN, NE-BC, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Children’s Nebraska. “Project Austin significantly impacts children and families and supports our first-responder partners across the region. This teamwork connects hospitals, communities, and families to improve and save lives. At its core, Project Austin is about enabling the right care at the right time and the right location.”
Project Austin currently operates within an eight-state region coordinating care for over 1,900 of the area’s most complex and medically fragile children and their families.
“Congratulations to Children’s Nebraska on receiving the 2023 ANCC Magnet Prize!” said Jeff Doucette, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAAN, Chief Nursing Officer, Press Ganey. “This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the nursing team and their commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. At Press Ganey, we are proud to sponsor this prestigious award that recognizes organizations like Children’s Nebraska for their outstanding contributions to healthcare innovation and quality. We applaud the team’s efforts in developing Project Austin, a remarkable initiative that bridges the gap between hospital and home for children with special healthcare needs, ultimately improving patient outcomes and community awareness. This is a shining example of the transformative impact nursing can have on healthcare. Well done, Children’s Nebraska!”
“The brilliant nurses at Children’s Nebraska are shining examples of what it means to embody the Magnet nurse values of excellence in practice and quality leadership,” said Rebecca Graystone, PhD, MBA, RN, NE-BC, Senior Vice President, Accreditation & Organization Credentialing. “The dedication to their work and commitment to helping the littlest and most vulnerable patients and their families are truly inspiring and admirable.”
